Equine Weekender

By popular demand, we have created a new equine workshop over a long weekend, to ensure people with busy lives don’t miss out!

Photographing the Wild White Horses of the Camargue is on most Wildlife and Equine photographer’s bucket list. You can’t beat the adrenalin rush of this noble breed running through the marsh and heading straight towards your camera. We will also do two shoots with beautiful Lusitano stallions – one with the horses running along the beach – and the other an indoor shoot, using natural daylight, guaranteed to provide stunning portraits. You will also photograph a striking black Andalusian stallion running along the beach and an iconic white Camargue stallion in action on the beach and rearing on the sand dunes.

This workshop has been designed as a stand-alone photo tour, but it can also be ‘bolted-on’ to our Friesian Dream workshop in Northern Spain, which is complementary in duration and content.

Airport transfers to and from Montpellier airport – arrivals day between 09h00 and mid-afternoon/departures day between 09h00 and 19h00 (other transfers are not included but can be arranged by us)

Day 1.

Arrive at Montpellier airport by mid-afternoon for transfer to your charming hotel in the centre of the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes.

At 6pm, we will gather for a welcome drink and briefing meeting.

Day2.

In the morning we head to the beach to photograph some beautiful Portuguese Lusitano stallions. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the horses running free and at play and to capture them in a wide variety of action shots.

In the afternoon, we go to a stud farm to capture portraits of the beautiful Lusitano stallions. This is an indoor shoot, using natural daylight only, that pierces through the roof and lights up the horses. You will have the opportunity to photograph several Lusitano horses of different colours.

Day 3.

We head to the beach for a shoot with the beautiful black Andalusian stallion. We photograph him running along the beach and dashing and diving in and around the sea and surf, making for a wide range of dramatic action shots.

Late afternoon, we photograph the Camargue wild white horses running through the marsh. We shoot several drives with the horses running across and towards your field of view. We will also take portraits of the ‘Gardians’ (Camargue Cowboys) dressed in their traditional Camargue attire, trident in hand, surrounded by the herd.

Day 4.

We head back to the beach for the final shoot of a beautiful white Camargue stallion. We photograph him running in and around the sea and surf, as well as rearing on the top of the sand dunes. We also take close-up portraits, in-between the action shots.

Afternoon departures to Montpellier airport.

* To join our workshops, you need to have a good understanding of how your own camera works (how to set it up in Manual, Aperture and Shutter priority) and understand about exposure.

Pre-workshop course (subject to availability)
Cost including hotel £370 pp.
If you would like to arrive a day early to beneﬁt from a course on your camera, settings, techniques and how to obtain the best out of your workshop, please let us know. We consider the pre-course very worthwhile for intermediate-level photographers and essential for beginners or photographers with new equipment they are not familiar with.
