Tailored for equine and portrait photographers, this workshop showcases the distinctive beauty of Andalusian culture through a diverse selection of horse photography in remarkable settings and compositions. These sessions take place on the beach, at a stud farm, within a Spanish Riding School, and both in front of and inside historic buildings. Some shoots are with the horses on their own and others feature skilled dressage riders in traditional Andalusian attire.
Situated in the heart of Flamenco and Sherry country, participants will be immersed in the local culture by attending an authentic Flamenco performance, sampling regional Sherry, and enjoying great tapas!
This is a cultural, fun and rich photographic two-centre tour in Jerez de la Frontera and one of Andalusia’s famous white villages.
This is the perfect opportunity to tag on a few days before or after the workshop to visit beautiful Seville!
Meet at Seville airport at 12.30 for transfer to the hotel in Jerez de la Frontera (famous for its Horse culture, Flamenco and Sherry!)
After settling into the hotel we will have a welcome/briefing meeting
We drive a short distance to the most important nucleus of the Purebred Spanish horse of Carthusian lineage and one of the oldest, most outstanding and prestigious in the world. We capture behind the scenes photography in the different areas of the extensive grounds, and of the grooms as they prepare the horses for the Equestrian show. We have privileged access to capture the herd of horses before and after the show as they run in and back out of the arena
In the afternoon we go to an ancient monastery where we capture portraits of an Andalusian rider in typical dress, against the backdrop of the historic building
In the morning we go to a famous bodega where we will capture an Andalusian horse and rider in and around the old winery and we have special permission to photograph the horse inside one of the old cellars, amongst the barrels of Sherry, with shafts of golden light piercing through the dusty gloom
Our hosts will then give us a guided tour of the history of the bodega, followed by a tasting
We will have a traditional lunch and immerse ourselves in the most authentic Flamenco show in town, where world-class artists ignite the stage with electrifying performances. The air is charged with emotion as their heels drum a thunderous rhythm and voices soar with raw, heartfelt passion, drawing us into the very soul of Andalusia for an unforgettable, dramatic spectacle
Before sunrise we head to the coast where we will capture a beautiful Andalusian stallion running free on the beach and in the sea
In the afternoon we will have a review session of the photos you have taken so far, with help and advice for the shoots co come
We return to the Carthusian stud farm at dawn to capture the mares and foals, with their manes lit by the sunrise glow, as they run into the meadow
This will be followed by a portraits shoot with dressage riders on horseback with different backdrops in the grounds of the farm
In the afternoon we return to the stud farm to capture a variety of different coloured stallions running free in the paddock, one after the other, making for dramatic action shots
We leave for the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art where we will have a multi-faceted shoot with horses and dressage riders, in front of the ancient palace; in the Atrium, with a beam of sunlight streaming through the roof, and even inside a beautiful room of the palace!
After the photography, we will have a guided tour of the amazing facilities of the riding school
Late afternoon we head to the beach for a shoot with riders and horses as the sun sets over the horizon
After breakfast we checkout of the hotel and return to the Riding School for an impressive dressage show. After the show we drive to our new hotel in an amazing ‘far-west’ town that time forgot!
We set off on a walking tour to explore the incredible town and capture some street photos
Early morning we have a photoshoot with an exceptional dressage rider (son of a famous horseback bullfighter), 2 horses and a beautiful International Flamenco dancer – against the backdrop of the most iconic buildings in town
Late afternoon, we head back into town for a portraits shot of the local cowboys on horseback
We checkout after breakfast for departure to the airport (for afternoon flights home)
