For this workshop Create Away has partnered with friend and talented photographer, Andrew James, who will be leading this tour.

Andrew has guided numerous photo expeditions and has a particular affinity with the polar regions, having led multiple trips to both the Arctic and Antarctic.

April is still considered Winter in Svalbard, which is why it’s the best time for photographers to visit this icy wilderness, under a veil of white snow, with beautiful soft light. We hope to see Walrus’ on ice floes, Arctic Foxes in their white winter finery, several species of seal, and reindeer. We may also see marine mammals such as Orca and not forgetting the iconic Polar Bear!

Apart from the exceptional wildlife, the white landscape, with its frozen sea, creates a beautiful pattern and texture that can only be described as magical. Mountains are striated white with ice and the land is covered in snow.

We will explore the coastline in our Zodiac inflatable boats and some days we may find ourselves shrouded in eerie fog, whilst others we’ll be exploring in beautiful soft blue and pink light.

We are delighted to have secured the R/V Kinfish for this trip. This small expedition vessel has just six passenger cabins and a reputation as one of the best in the Arctic. Previously used as a research and rescue vessel, she was modernised and remodelled as a comfortable passenger expedition vessel with spacious forward and rear decks, low to the water, so ideal for getting closer to wildlife on the ice, and low angle shots you simply can’t achieve on other ships. She is also the only ship to offer two large platforms in the main mast for an up-high incredible 360° overview of the landscape. With a high-tech bridge, outstanding manoeuvrability and a great capability to navigate in narrow and demanding waters this makes her particularly well suited to photography. With a Scandinavian design cabin are modern and comfortable with en-suite facilities.

A deposit of 40% is payable at the time of booking

January 2024: 30% final payment (£2,490)

FLIGHTS IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please note we sometimes run this workshop back to front. Also, there is a minimum number of people required, so please do not book your flights until you have checked with us.

What is included in the price:

9 days, 8 nights onboard the Kinfish
Full-board (all meals) and a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks included with meals
All transportation from and back to the airport and during your workshop
Guidance and tuition throughout by an expert photographer

What’s excluded:

International flights are not included. You will be informed of the advised group flights to book both to and from Longyearbyen (you may choose to spend a night in Longyearbyen before the trip)
It is a requirement of booking that you have adequate travel insurance
