Arctic Adventure

April is still considered Winter in Svalbard, which is why it’s the best time for photographers to visit this icy wilderness, under a veil of white snow, with beautiful soft light. We hope to see Walrus’ on ice floes, Arctic Foxes in their white winter finery, several species of seal, and reindeer. We may also see marine mammals such as Orca and not forgetting the iconic Polar Bear!

Apart from the exceptional wildlife, the white landscape, with its frozen sea, creates a beautiful pattern and texture that can only be described as magical. Mountains are striated white with ice and the land is covered in snow.

We will explore the coastline in our Zodiac inflatable boats and some days we may find ourselves shrouded in eerie fog, whilst others we’ll be exploring in beautiful soft blue and pink light.

We are delighted to have secured the R/V Kinfish for this trip. This small expedition vessel has just six passenger cabins and a reputation as one of the best in the Arctic. Previously used as a research and rescue vessel, she was modernised and remodelled as a comfortable passenger expedition vessel with spacious forward and rear decks, low to the water, so ideal for getting closer to wildlife on the ice, and low angle shots you simply can’t achieve on other ships. She is also the only ship to offer two large platforms in the main mast for an up-high incredible 360° overview of the landscape. With a high-tech bridge, outstanding manoeuvrability and a great capability to navigate in narrow and demanding waters this makes her particularly well suited to photography. With a Scandinavian design cabin are modern and comfortable with en-suite facilities.
