    Camargue, Provence Villages & Lavender

So many people across the globe fulfil their life-long dream with us to photograph the Wild White Horses of the Camargue. You can’t beat the adrenalin rush of this noble breed splashing through the shallow waters of the marsh and lakes in their natural habitat. We have combined this workshop with another dream of many – the villages of the Luberon and swathes of Lavender fields, like purple velvet, sweeping through the valleys of Provence – it’s a once-a-year experience not to be missed. Understandably, so many famous artists came to this region to paint endless canvasses of the vibrant colours with such extraordinary light. Capture iconic, award-winning photos with Serge on home soil.

    Day 2

We leave before dawn for the Parc Ornithologique, which is a natural Camargue wetlands area with one of the largest arrays of birdlife in Europe, including the famous Pink Flamingos. Our privileged local contacts provide us with access the park, before sunrise and before it opens to the public, so you can capture wonderful, exclusive images as the birds fly in at sunrise. We will guide you to the prime locations, among the waterways and lakes, to capture a variety of species, from single birds perched at the nest, to large flocks of pink Flamingos.

In the afternoon, we will capture the Black Camargue bulls, thundering through the shallow waters of marshland, with their horns held high, as they are herded by the Gardians on horseback – a unique and thrilling photographic experience.

    Day 3

In the morning, we capture two white Camargue stallions sparring – this is a unique opportunity to photograph these magnificent creatures, in a feisty mood, as they rear and entwine at full height.

Late afternoon, we photograph the Wild White horses running through the marsh. We shoot several drives with the horses running across and towards your field of view. We will also take shots of the ‘Gardians’ (Camargue Cowboys) dressed in their traditional Camargue shirts & hats, trident in hand, surrounded by the herd as well as some close-up portraits of both the horses and the ‘weathered’ ranchers.

    Day 4

At sunrise, we have another session with the horses, running together through the shallow waters of the lakes, with a different composition & location. In-between the action, we take portraits and close-ups of the horses on their own or in small groups.

Late afternoon, we head to the beach for the ultimate spectacle of the wild white horses running along the golden sand and through the surf, with sea spray flying. We shoot several drives in different directions, so you can capture an assortment of action pictures, with a variety of lighting conditions. There will also be another opportunity to take some portraits of the ‘Gardians’ and of the horses.

    Day 5

A relaxed morning to download your photos and pack, before checking out of the hotel to depart for the Luberon, characterised by its strikingly picturesque perched, hill-top villages, dating back at least 1000 years (approx. 2hr drive).

Check in to the hotel and take time to unwind and unpack.

In the afternoon/sunset we photograph the first beautiful Luberon village, with ochre Provence colours in technicolour glory, contrasting with the green of the pine trees and the blue sky against the natural pigment of the red cliffs.

    Day 6

We spend the next two days capturing the Lavender fields and some of the most beautiful Lubéron villages, with wonderful views out across the valley floor with its patchwork of orchards and vineyards.

At sunrise we photograph one of ‘The Most Beautiful Villages in France’, offering stunning views from outside the village and we also capture quaint shots in the narrow streets of the village itself.

On the way back, we photograph a sunflower field in full bloom before returning to the hotel for breakfast and time to relax.

Late afternoon we will capture a beautiful and still working 12th century abbey. Its sublime, solitary setting, surrounded by fields of lavender in full flower and fragrance, along with the timeless serenity and honey-coloured stone of the monastic buildings, make it one of the most photographed sights in Provence.

    Day 7

We set off for a sunrise shoot at a village dominated by its huge rotunda, shaped like a helmet, and its field of lavender stretching out below. We also capture images within the beautiful picturesque mediaeval village itself before returning to the hotel for breakfast.

In the afternoon we photograph a different village with heavy cobbles and castle dominating from the very top; we also capture another jewel of a village with its golden stone carved out of the rock and a plateau at the top with a picturesque windmill and panoramic views.

    Day 8

We photograph the village at sunrise, for the last time, with the sun warming the ochre-red colours.

We return to the hotel for breakfast before checking out and heading for Provence.

Check in to the hotel and take time to unwind and unpack.

Late afternoon, we set off for our first shoot to capture the picturesque Village, nestled in the hillside, with the sun setting on its old mediaeval stone. We will take a panoramic view from the bottom and will also climb to the highest viewpoint to photograph the rooftops as the sun sets over the village below with its iconic church dominating the horizon.

Optional group dinner in the village.

    Day 9

At dawn, we set off for the Plateau to photograph the Lavender fields at sunrise and in the pale morning light, dotted with small stone shepherd’s huts (Mazet) with the Alpilles mountains as a backdrop.

We return to the hotel for breakfast and time to rest and download your photos.

In the afternoon, we head back to the stunning Plateau, awash with beautiful blue lavender and sunflowers in full bloom – a sight – and scent – to behold! We end the day by capturing the beautiful sunset over the lavender fields.

    Day 10

At dawn, we head for the wild and beautiful canyon and lake, described as one of the most picturesque sites in the South of France. On the way back, capture the blue lavender, golden wheat and sunflowers, geometrically aligned in the fields, their borders accentuated by almond trees and the villages in the valleys, stretching out as far as the eye can see.

We return to the hotel for breakfast and time to rest and download your photos.

In the afternoon, we head off to photograph a single abandoned Mazet set on a sweeping hill of Lavender, as the sun sets.

    Day 11

    Final lavender shoot at dawn.
