Equine Photographer’s Dream

Tour Leader: Serge Krouglikoff

Designed for equine and wildlife photographers, we capture the Majestic Friesian stallions in different locations, with contrasting scenery, in Northern Spain. From sunrise and sunset shoots on the beach to striking backdrops at the elegant ranch, you are guaranteed the horses at their best, whether it’s feisty action shots or still and serene portraits.

The second half of the tour is in the Camargue where we will photograph the famous Wild White Horses, a bucket-list dream for photographers from around the Globe. We will capture the white horses in various locations with different compositions in the marsh and on the beach. You can’t beat the adrenalin rush of this noble breed splashing through the shallow waters of the marsh and beach and heading straight towards your camera! This equine dream also includes a shoot with a beautiful black stallion on the beach and an indoor portraits shoot of several different horses with lighting, against a moody backdrop.

Itinerary

This itinerary is a draft only and is subject to change

Day 1 Thursday

We will collect you from Montpellier airport by early afternoon for transfer to your hotel, situated in a beautiful old, mediaeval walled town.

We will gather for a welcome drink and briefing meeting.

Day 2 Friday

In the morning, we head to a local ranch to photograph different stallions (including Camargue, Lusitano and Andalusian). This is an indoor shoot, using both lighting and natural daylight, so you can capture intense portraits of these beautifully trained horses, against a ‘moody’ backdrop.

Late afternoon, we go to the beach for a shoot with a beautiful trained, white Camargue stallion. We photograph him rearing on the top of the sand dunes, and running on the beach and in the sea, making for striking action shots.

Day 3 Saturday

At sunrise, we photograph the Camargue wild white horses at a peaceful lagoon with beautiful reflections. We then head for the beach to capture the horses running along the golden sand and in the sea and surf.

Late afternoon, we photograph the Camargue wild white horses running through the marsh. We shoot several drives with the horses running across and towards your field of view. We will also take portraits of the ‘Gardians’ (Camargue Cowboys) dressed in their traditional Camargue attire, trident in hand, surrounded by the herd.

Day 4 Sunday

Early morning, we have another session with the Camargue wild white horses in the marsh. We also capture the horses, beautifully backlit, by the sunrise, as they run through the woods. After the action, we take close-up portraits of the horses.

In the afternoon, we photograph the sparring stallions – this is a unique opportunity to see the Camargue white horses entwined at full height, in feisty temperament, with their manes flying.

Day 5 Monday

In the morning, we photograph a beautiful black trained Andalusian stallion who loves the beach! We capture him running along the beach and frolicking in and out of the sea and surf providing a wide range of dramatic images.

For the final Camargue shoot, we photograph the Camargue white horses running through a big lake.  The location is ideal to capture minimalist images in colour or black & white.

Day 6 Tuesday

After breakfast, we drive to Catalonia in Northern Spain (arriving in the afternoon). Take time to settle into your delightful hotel, with sea views and enjoy a typically Spanish meal in the hotel’s wonderful restaurant.

Day 7 Wednesday

In the morning, we head to the ranch for the first shoot with the young Friesian foals. We capture them playing, running and sparring, against a beautiful backdrop, with different compositions, making for a wide range of action shots.

In the afternoon, we return to the ranch to photograph the majestic and feisty Friesian stallions, each one more beautiful than the last with their silky black coats and flowing manes, against a contrasting-coloured wall.

Day 8 Thursday

At sunrise, we head to the beach, with two Friesian stallions. We capture beautiful silhouettes as the sun starts to rise over the beach and sea. We then change location to photograph the stallions, with the warm winter sun transforming their coats to a shimmering gold, in the soft morning light. Poised and still or dashing through the shallow water of the lagoon, capture exciting action shots and stunning portraits.

Late afternoon, we head back to the beach to capture the horses in both portraits and action shots as the glow of the winter sun sets on the horizon.

Day 9 Friday

Departures from Barcelona airport.
